Magnesium: America’s Deficiency

You’ve Heard of Magnesium but, What Exactly is it?

  •   It is a natural element listed 12th on the periodic table of elements (Alkaline Earth Metal).
  •   It is the 8th most abundant element found in the Earth’s crust.
  •   It is the 11th most abundant element found in your body.
  •  On any given day your body stores around 20 grams of Magnesium
  •  It is involved in over 600 known Cellular Processes.

Needless to say, it sounds pretty important!

Theory of Magnesium’s creation

Magnesium is said to be fused in the core of large stars as the star’s fuel source moves from Hydrogen to Helium. The elemental cascade goes like this: Helium and Carbon fuse to form Oxygen.  Helium and Oxygen combine to form Neon. Helium and Neon finally come together to form the “STAR” of this segment known as  Magnesium. Once the star forms Iron the reactions stop, the star collapses in on itself, creating a supernova explosion spreading its contained elements across the universe. Sound Familiar?

Now The Good Stuff.

Biology and Life on Earth

I’m sure we’re all familiar with the food chain…

Magnesium makes the soil very fertile and there’s a very special reason for this. The green pigmented molecule known as Chlorophyll is what allows plants to capture, store, and use energy from the sun in order to carry out their life processes. At the center of each Chlorophyll Molecule, you will find a Magnesium Atom!  An interesting side note: Chlorophyll is almost identical to hemoglobin in our blood, the only difference being the magnesium atom is replaced by iron. Can you spell out intelligent design any clearer?

Magnesium concentrations in our body have been shown to have major correlations with Brain Development/Health, Healthy Skeletal Muscle Function, Blood Sugar Control, Immune Support, and Heart Health. Magnesium deficiency is the most common mineral deficiency in the America’s and most likely the world!

Real-World Applications

Although my current EMS System does not carry it, I’ve personally seen Magnesium used many times in the ER setting. It is given to treat life-threatening heart arrhythmias(irregular heartbeats), complicated pregnancies, GI issues(milk of magnesium), and seizures. It is quickly absorbed, safe, and fast-acting.

Magnesium helps you relax, de-stress, and sleep better. It does this by blocking the over-activity of neurons in your brain. It also shows evidence in lowing blood pressure by preventing blood vessels from contracting thus, improving systematic blood flow.

Magnesium has shown the ability to help transport other vitamins and minerals(such as vitamin d &c) into your cells. This is crucial because more of the substance can be readily available to perform its biological task.

Magnesium helps shuttle blood sugar into your muscles while disposing of toxic lactic acid. This improves muscle stamina and performance.

The importance of Magnesium cannot be understated and fact that most of the world is lacking this essential mineral is a shame!

Religious Aspect (Opinion)

Being in the EMS/Fire Service, it is no joke how bright, hot, and hard a Magnesium fire is to put out. Adding water makes it worse so other measures have to be taken in order to contain and extinguish it.

Magnesium always makes me think of the Burning Bush God Presented as to Moses in Exodus. It Also reminds me of the Eternal Fire of Hell Prepared for the devil and his angels mentioned in the Book of Matthew
