History of this ancient flowering plant
Nigella Stativa (Scientific Name) is native to South East Asia and traces its “Roots” back at least 3000 years. Black cumin seed has been used throughout Asia, The Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe for food preparation, cosmetics, and medical purposes.
- In Egypt, the queens Cleopatra and Nefertiti both used black cumin seed oil for skin care and everyday beauty routines. Black cumin oil was also found in king Tutankhamen’s tomb because they believed he would use it in the afterlife.
- In Islamic Culture, Muhammed stated that black cumin oil could cure anything but death itself.
- Greek Physician Hippocrates (think Hippocratic oath doctors take) used black cumin oil to treat patients with digestive issues.
The earliest mention of this powerful plant is found in the most important text ever produced, The Holy Bible!
Old Testament Mention
The first ever mention of black cumin seed is in The Book of Isaiah 28:25,27 in which The Holy Prophet uses the timing of farming different crops to the timing and planning of God. The same way a seasoned farmer knows when, how, and what to plant and harvest, God knows what “tools” to use and when to use them in our everyday lives. God holds all the wisdom all we need to do is trust and listen to his word.
Spoken by Jesus himself!
In Matthew 23:23 Jesus confronts the Pharisees for enforcing strict laws of taxation on the people. God’s Law put forth in Deuteronomy and Leviticus stated that Israelites were required to give 10 percent of specific crops (one of them Black Cumin) and earnings to the temple. Over time, the Religious leaders used these God Given Laws to create their own man made Laws to benefit themselves. Jesus called the religious leaders “Blind” “Hypocrites” for manipulating the Holy Word of God to further participate in self righteousness, deceitfulness, greed and lawlessness. He promised them they would pay for their evil actions and reminded them that nothing goes unseen!
Supplementing and Clinical Evidence.
Black cumin seed oil is very powerful at hindering free radicals in your body thus, lowering the amount of oxidative stress on your cells. These antioxidative properties are not only important in metabolic processes and fighting infections, but lab research has shown that black cumin seed can cause cell death in blood, breast, lung, pancreatic, and prostate cancers. Human trials are currently underway!
Covid 19 Studies
Thymquinone is the main active compound found in black cumin seed oil. A study recently showed that thymquinone may prevent covid 19 from entering your cells by occupying the same receptor.
Another study showed evidence that thymquinone might inhibit the enzyme responsible for the virus to replicate directly. With this enzyme inhibited, the virus is useless and the body can dispose of it. Again, more research is underway but promising!
